5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this instead of Eponymous, 5 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This collection undoubtedly offers the best coverage of REM up to 1987. It contains all their best songs of the period (although there are many more classics on the albums) such as The One I Love, Radio Free Europe, Pretty Persuasion and the gorgeous Cuyahoga. This offers much better value for money than the decidedly patchy coveraqge offered by Eponymous. So go and buy this today to hear some of the best (and freshest) music that REM have recorded.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff, 16 Aug 2003
This album is full of REM's lesser known songs. This doesn't mean that they're no good though. From the minute you turn on the ablum, the sound is amazing. Perfect Circle is one of the most beautiful and moving songs I've heard, with an absolutly gorgoues chorus. Talk About The Passion is one of those songs you can listen to, and just listen. (Don't go Back to) Rockville is a groovy summer song, and is really uplifting. Fall on Me is another beautiful track, as is Cuyahoga. The album ends in one of my favourite It's The End Of The World (And I Feel Fine) and is maybe a reminder to everyone out there in the world, who are always in danger. This album is a must-buy, and will lighten up your day.

5.0 out of 5 stars The classic early years, 9 Oct 2005
By M. Smith "Robot3021" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Chances are you won't know most of the songs on this album, if, like me, you first heard of REM around the Green/Out of Time years. In fact, the only ones I'd heard of were The One I Love and It's The End Of The World As We Know It. If you're the same, don't let that put you off though as this album is full of incredibly beautiful songs that will introduce a whole new side to the band.

I wasn't too keen on this album at first, but soon the tunes started to grow on me, and now this CD rarely leaves my stereo. From the early mumblings of Radio Free Europe and Perfect Circle to the truely amazing Fall On Me and Cuyahoga, it's impossible not to fall in love with this collection.

It's a shame that recently the band have lost their way, so instead of buying Reveal or Around The World, invest in this and some of their earlier albums (especially Murmur) as you won't be disappointed.

Not really a great REM fan, heard some on the radio and liked it over the years, thought I'd take the plunge and try this. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars A very different REM
If you came to REM post 'Out Of Time' as I did and then collected all the albums to the present date, it was only natural that you would then investigate their earlier 'IRS' work... Read more
